2009 Hobart Ames Memorial Field Trials
Grand Junction, Tenn.—The 2009 edition of the Hobart Ames
Memorial trials drew a large entry — 84 in the Open All-Age and
24 in the Derby, both with one-hour heats.
Judges for the Open All-Age were Russ Henderson of Claremore,
Okla., and Jadie Rayfield of Mt. Pleasant, S. C. They named as
winner Whippoorwill Firebox, owned by Earl J. Connolly of
Memphis and handled by Larry Huffman. The pointer female had
three finds. Second was Whippoorwill Hot Dame, pointer female
owned by Preston and Patty Trimble of Norman, Okla., and handled
by Allen Vincent. Hot Dame was credited with two finds. White’s
Solid Reward, pointer male owned by John and Susan Ivester of
Charlotte, N. C., also had two finds and was awarded third.
Reward was handled by Lefty Henry.
Winner of the companion Open Derby was House’s River Wind,
pointer male owned and handled by Joe Don House of Clinton, Ky.
River Wind had three finds. Second was Whippoorwill Radiance,
pointer female owned by Dr. J. D. Huffman of Michigan City,
Miss., and handled by Larry Huffman. Third was Regret C, pointer
female handled by owner Dr. Fred Corder of Corinth, Miss.
Radiance and Regret C were bracemates and each had one find.
Judges for the Derby were Michael Shears of Franklin, Tenn., and
David Williams of Cordova, Tenn.
