Nineteenth Annual Ames Plantation Heritage Festival; October 8, 2016
The Ames Plantation in cooperation with The University of Tennessee announces the Nineteenth Annual Heritage Festival. This unique festival is sure to please everyone from the avid history buff to those with an appreciation of the diverse folk art of our past. Or if you just enjoy a relaxing day in the country with your family be sure to join us for a fun-filled educational experience for all ages. Come and celebrate your past at the largest and most diverse event of its type in the region. Whatever your age or interest, you are sure to have an exciting time. Don’t miss it!
Over 150 folk artists, demonstrators, re-enactors, and musicians will provide a day of entertainment and education unlike any in the area. In addition to a day filled with the sounds of gospel, blues, and string band music, a diverse selection of 19th century skills and activities will be offered. Visitors may take part in hands-on activities such as picking cotton and goat milking. Other demonstrations will include blacksmithing, kettle laundry, quilting, weaving, tatting, soap making, basket weaving, traditional pottery, early sound recording, and so much more. The Civil War Era will be brought to life through living history encampments, educational presentations, and demonstrations including cannon fire exhibitions. Bring your shopping bag because a wide selection of folk art and crafts will be available for purchase from some of the best folk artists in the region.
Admission and Parking
Admission is $5.00 for adults, $2.00 dollars for ages 4 – 16 and free for ages 3 and under. Enter Ames Plantation via Buford Ellington Road from Tennessee Highway 18. Signs will direct you to free parking and shuttle service to the event site. Impaired mobility assistance is available within our capability. No Pets Allowed.
