Cemetery Restoration and Preservation
Located
on Ames Plantation property are numerous cemeteries serving as
the final resting places for many of the area's 19th century
residents. Of all the historic sites found on Ames property the
cemeteries hold a position of special importance, especially to
those who descended from these earlier occupants. Each year
individuals with family connections to those buried here contact
us. Traveling from destinations as distant and geographically
diverse as California and Rhode Island, visitors come here to
see, many times after decades of searching, the gravesite of a
distant relative.
These monuments to those who helped to build this great land
have suffered at the hands of time, both here at Ames and
throughout the region. Each year this country loses many of
these cultural treasures and the valuable information that they
contain to neglect, development, and the simple passage of time.
In order that the cemeteries of the Ames Plantation survive for
future generations we are actively involved in a management
program for the purpose of investigating, restoring, and
preserving these important cultural resources. Visit each of the
cemeteries by simply clicking on the index link under
“Cemeteries” on the left of your screen.
