Ames Plantation
Historical Society
For almost two decades the Ames Plantation
has worked to preserve our history and yours while educating the
public about local history and the importance of preserving our
exciting history.
Opportunities abound for you to become involved in this effort
by becoming a member of the Ames Plantation Historical Society.
Now over 200 members strong, the Historical Society is playing
an important role in the success of our program. Member
volunteers assist with a variety of projects including helping
with the annual Heritage Festival, cemetery cleanup and
restoration, archive transcription, and others. In 2004 members
contributed over 250 hours of their time to various projects.
Even if you cannot participate in these events due to such
factors as distance or health issues, your membership is no less
important. Each member, through the sharing of an interest in
heritage preservation and through membership dues, is critical
to our success. In fact, membership dues and associated
contributions have already provided almost $13,000 for a variety
of preservation and educational projects.
