The Elrod Cemetery is located in a wooded area between the John Fason Ridge Field and the John Fason Bottom Field on the Ames Plantation in Fayette County Tennessee. The cemetery has one gravestone. These is physical evidence in the form of elongated depressions in the ground of at least 17 unmarked graves. Due to the spacing of the graves and the extent of the area covered by the periwinkle plant, which grows in abundance at the cemetery, it appears that the cemetery covers an area approximately 35 yards by 26 yards in size. The only cultural feature associated with the cemetery is an old roadbed which runs along one edge. The Elrod Cemetery was probably a community cemetery being used by several families living in the surrounding area.
